Hi
i am fed up of being uncomfortable and don't understand the advice I have been given. I have been told to use Flamigel for the most part, and Flaminal Torte on broken skin, and to keep the area dry. The Flamigel is wet and claggy, and takes forever to dry. Unless you thicken it on, it doesn't seem to give relief. Previously was using QV cream instead of flaminal torte, and that better seemed to remove some of the redness and sting. Taking ad hoc painkillers, paracetamol and oromorph, usually twice a day, but either difficult to go to the toilet, or had a couple of bouts or rhea, no happy medium. Very sore to go today. Still have 11 days of treatment, with a 4 day gap in the middle for Easter. Only have 1 day off this weekend, as otherwise, due to the 4 days off, my treatment "won't be as effective". Am totally sick as a chip : Did anyone else have treatment over Easter, or Xmas, where the routine was disrupted? How did you cope with the 1 day gap?
Hi Beyond terrified,
My treatment encompassed a bank holiday, mine was the Spring bank holiday at the end of May, the week before the bank holiday I had just the Saturday off treatment & was given an appointment for the Sunday then the following week (bank holiday) I had the Saturday, Sunday & bank holiday Monday off treatment then picked back up on the Tuesday as normal. I think this fell at the end of my 2nd or 3rd week into treatment. I used QV cream to begin with & found it great then was prescribed flaminal when I began getting sore & then flamazine after treatment had finished, the flamazine really stung so I was advised to mix it with a bit of the QV cream but I was never told I had to keep the area dry, having said that my skin was really, really inflamed but not broken down as such until my symptoms peaked after treatment had finished. Have you tried alternating the paracetamol with ibuprofen instead of the oromorph? I found this combination 2 hourly worked well & kept most of my pain & discomfort manageable.
Nicola
Hi Nikki
I have been nervousmaybe to try the ibruprofen because I have been getting a lot of reflux/indigestion, which I don't normally get, other than in the past when I have taken ibruprofen. But I am on Lansoprazole now, so was going to try the ibruprofen later today. I think the flaminal stings a little, I maybe prefer the QV cream. I am not looking forward to getting flamazine if it stings :( Am trying to make the most of these last few days of relative comfort, 9 treatments left. Thanks for all your advice :) R x
Hi Beyond terrified,
Yes I took lansoprazole throughout when I was taking the ibuprofen as normally it makes me quite sick & I was fine with it, maybe give it a try, if it still irritates your tummy you’ll know it’s maybe not worth it. The Flamazine cream contains silver apparently therefore it can’t be used whilst having radiotherapy but it’s supposed to be very good for burns, I used it but as I say I mixed it with a little aqueous cream. 9 days left, the end is in sight for you now. Good luck with the last lap.
Nicola
Hey, bless you I remember that feeling so well. Sitz baths were my saviour for pain and soreness the gels and oain relief did nothing.
My treatment was slightly disrupted by sickness in the last week of chemo who h stopped me being able to have radiotherapy, I was so dehydrated I couldn't have enough water.for radio so they stopped the chemo and I remember being beyon anxious but I got the best results and was given the all clear as my final scans.
No words can comfort you as we know what you’re going through is literally hell but the outcome is so positive it's really work it.
Good luck the end is in sight xxxx. Much love
Hi Matilda
How did you make your sitz bath? Have seen you can buy saline and apply cloths, use a bidet bowl or salt in the bath? I found after surgery, bathing umpteen times a day relieved the pain, but I thought with this condition I had to try to keep the area dry as much as possible, though still tend to jump in the bath 2 or 3 times a day, but my consultant said just to use plain water.
And thank you for the good wishes, I am trying to hold the positive outcome to get me through these last few weeks. Rosie x
Hey lovely
I purchased a sitz bath from Amazon and it fitted on the toilet seat and I would fill it with warm salt water and bicarb of soda. I would then dab dry and use a cool hair dryer as well that really helped.
feeling your pain but please hold onto those positive thoughts darling xxxx
