Hi, my son was diagnosed with APML leukemia in April this year. We are now just over half way through his chemo treatment. He is doing as well as can be expected. I am his main carer, organizing meds (waking him each day to take them as some are time sensitive) and hospital outpatient appointments, managing emotions and life on hold for him. He has an amazing support network through the Teenage cancer Trust and our family. My main reason for joining today is I work for my husbands company and he is the director (he is my son's step dad) and I have not felt supported by others within the company through the whole journey. Pressures mentioned about me getting back to work 2/3 weeks after diagnosis or my pay would be cut, no other support apart from my husband who is going through this process also. As we are further along people seem to forget you are still facing this every day! I am now managing 32 hours a week and 2 hospital visits and medication administration, sometimes i feel like I might break. It can be so hard.
Hi again JaxCarera696ff and well done navigating across to this corner of the Community.
As I said in your post in the New to Community area I don’t have Leukaemia but I have been on my Lymphoma journey ey fir over 25 years.
Let’s look for group members to pick up on your post and get back to you. You can also click on the main ‘AML Group’ title and this will bring up all the group posts. Have a look at the posts and as always you can hit reply to any post and connect in with the wider group conversations.
For good information do check out Leukaemia Care UK who produce very good information and run various support platforms including their Buddy Scheme, they also have a Support Line on 08088 010 444
You may also want to check to see if you have a Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and most centres do run monthly Heamatology Support Groups and the one I attend does have a few people with Leukaemia in it so worth checking.
Always around to help more or just to chat
