Evening,
My Niece was diagnosed with ALL in mid-May this year. She and her parents live in Cape Town so she is being treated at the Red Cross Children's Hospital. She had almost completed her second block of chemo and was about to go into maintenance when she was admitted back into hospital with fevers. The doctors have struggled to control the fevers and are not sure what was causing them. She was doing so well !
Last night she had a stroke. Is this common? Can a stroke be caused by ALL or by chemo?
How can I support my sister? I don't know what to do as I am so far away and I feel as though I can't support them. I feel completely useless and emotional while my sister is managing to be fairly calm and in control. I don't know how she does it ! Maybe I am being very selfish..
Aww. Bless her. I have heard of little ones reacting badly to chemo, so please don't worry yourself too much. Protect yourself in your positivity bubble and be there for your niece. It's an awful thing to happen but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.....you just have to suffer darkness before you reach it. x
