Melanoma on face which is being removed soon

Hi Nann and a very warm welcome to the travel insurance group.

I was diagnosed with melanoma a while ago so know first hand how tricky it can be getting reasonably priced travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved. I assume that your friends didn't buy travel insurance when they booked their holiday but, if they did, the first port of call would be to speak to their existing travel insurer to see if they're still covered.

I'm not sure from your post whether your friend has had the suspected melanoma removed, received the results that it is melanoma and is now waiting for the follow-up wide local excision operation or if he has yet to have the suspected melanoma removed and, therefore, not received the biopsy results?

Either way, he might be finding it difficult to get reasonably priced insurance because he is still undergoing treatment.

unfortunately his travel insurance premiums will still be higher than normal for sometime after his treatment has finished. Also, America is notoriously expensive for any medical treatment so that might possibly cause his premium to increase.

Have you had chance to look through the threads 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' yet, as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance within them. You could make a list for your friend and he could work his way through them. I always recommend that you phone the companies rather than do online quotes as sometimes it isn't easy to understand exactly what they need to know online.

Personally I've used payingtoomuch.com and goodtogoinsurance.com since my melanoma diagnosis.

I do hope that he can get some better priced travel insurance than what he's been quoted for so far.
