Hi All
I’m in adjuvant treatment for resected melanoma and am seeking annual cover for travel including a couple of cruises booked long before melanoma raised its nasty head! One of these is in Australia, the other in Europe excluding Spain. We’re likely to do other travel if treatment allows, but can limit this to Europe. We are currently covered through our Cooperative Bank account, but their insurer won’t cover cancer.
I’m getting back quotes between £2.3 and £2.7K just for me - although I can add my husband in for very little more and that seems a sensible thing to do.
Is it worth me continuing to shop around or must I bite the bullet and pay in excess of £2K? Any experience out there of this particular scenario?
Which companies have you tried so far?If not already suggest try albert&eddie online (you can get a quote there and then 'phone if necessary for clarification of any issues). This is a comparison website generally using insurers who utilise a different question set from most others.
Hi Euphoria and a very warm welcome to the group
Unfortunately, it's definitely more difficult to get reasonably priced travel insurance after a cancer diagnosis and annual travel insurance which includes a cruise can be particularly expensive.
If you don't get the insurance cover you need via the recommendation from excavator then do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads, as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance there.
I hope you're able to get some reasonably priced insurance and have some lovely holidays
Anne
Thanks, both. I’ve read through the ‘recommended travel insurance’ sections and have got on-line quotes from Insurancewith and Total Travel Insurance so far.
However, I managed to pick up a list of travel insurance firms (with website addresses, phone and email info) from my hospital’s Macmillan help centre last week. There are more than 30 of them so I’m going to get stuck in next week, perhaps calling hopefully looking ones. I will certainly try albert&eddie online. They are not on this Macmillan list. I tried payingtoomuch but they couldn’t come up with a single quote.
Anne, if you’d like me to scan and post the Macmillan list, just let me know.
Hi Euphoria
Thanks for the offer of posting a list of recommended travel insurance firms but, unfortunately, the Community Guidelines only allow personal recommendations so we wouldn't be able to post it.
All the best with your search.
Anne
Well, I’m not quite sure how to proceed. Has anyone made a claim with Total Travel Protection (TTP)? They have great Trustpilot reviews for buying a policy but not much on making a successful claim. That seems to be standard with a lot of suppliers.
After being quoted £2.7k plus by Insurancewith, in excess of £3k by the big boys and ruling out quotes withTop Dog and Sapphire obtained through albert&eddie (insufficient cover and poor reviews), TTP comes in with a (suspiciously?) low premium of £1k plus.
Any further advice, please?
You'd probably be best starting a new thread to ask this question Euphoria . I haven't used this company myself, so don't know what their claims record is like.
Thanks Latchbook, will do that perhaps. It wouldn’t publish the full message anyway….
Yes, when I replied it only showed your message up to the word buying in italics. I just thought you'd stopped there so thought you were only asking about their claims history. Your whole message is showing now
