Lung cancer and travel insurance

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get travel insurance please.

i have stage 3 terminal lung cancer with a 2 year plus survival. On immunotherapy and chemotherapy, had 2 treatments and 2 more to go. Was diagnosed in May.
ideally would like to purchase annual travel insurance but can’t get it. I asked for a quote for 1 week and they gave 2 prices….£4,400 and £2,600….both of which I can’t afford or I’m willing to pay. Surely people with cancer should be able to get some affordable insurance.
i feel ok in myself so seriously thinking of going without insurance and just get a flight back early if I don’t feel well. The quote I got was from Allclear.

Hopefully someone can help with suggestions. Thank you for reading this.

  • Try AllClear, but phone them don’t do on line. You might be knocked back on line but speaking to someone is different.

  • Thank you. The prices I’ve quoted were from there yesterday on the phone.

  • Suggest you try albert&eddie if not tried already. They are a comparison site owned by the same group that owns Insurancewith and Holidaysafe.

I have incurable but treatable prostate cancer and the question the above will ask you concerning outlook will be if you've reached the stage where you're incurable and one of the answer options is yes but outlook over 6 months which you appear able to confirm.

I secured annual worldwide ex Mexico with Holidaysafe at a reasonable price for my wife and I. Medical cover options were £5M or £10M but you might find other limits like cancelletion etc. with lower than normal limits plus an increased excess on the medical condition. These didn't bother me as we tend to book at the very last minute so were more interested in an adequate limit for medical treatment especially as we go to the US.

I do hope you can get fixed up without breaking the bank.

  • Hi

Unfortunately it's more difficult to get reasonably priced travel insurance after a cancer diagnosis, especially annual travel insurance.

If you don't get the insurance cover you need via the recommendation from excavator then do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads, as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance there.

I hope you're able to get some affordable travel insurance and that you have a great holiday.

  • I've recently experienced the same with stage 4LC that has been stable for the last 3 years.   After spending a week on the phone and endless online forms, only for the "Computer says NO" I finally spoke to a really helpful gentleman called Krish at insurecancer.com. and have finally managed to get cover for my 5 day holiday next week.  I had to send in copies of my latest CT report and letter from my oncologist advising stability.   I found that they see/speak you as the person and not the disease.  Hope you get to have a wonderful holiday Blush

My mum was thinking this way as well, as she was getting nowhere. Eventually she paid AllClears price (£3,600!!!) and thank god she did. When she began to feel unwell half way through the holiday, there was no way we would have been able to get her through the airport, let alone on a plane. She became so short of breath and her oxygen levels went from 98 to 92 and lower. She also experienced discomfort with her breathing once we were in the air on the way over which was very unpleasant. Please, please, please do not consider travelling without insurance. Mum had to be airlifted out in the end, we would have been tens of thousands out of pocket if she had not been insured, sadly we met several families in the hospital without insurance who were paying the price.
