Hi, my first post here. My husband just been diagnosed with lung cancer with liver  and bone metastasis and we are due to fly to Greece for our daughter's wedding in just over 2 weeks.

Insurewith won't even quote me because they say they can only provide insurance 6 weeks after diagnosis not before.

Anyone know an insurance company that will.

Also does anyone know when a diagnosis is 'official' for insurance purposes

Thankyou for any help anyone can offer

  • As far as I'm aware the 6 week stance is pretty widespread. If you haven't tried already a comparison site might be useful. I'd suggest also trying albert&eddie (strange name I know) if you've not heard of them, they're part of the same group as Insurancewith and I got a good annual quote with Holidaysafe from them.

The question of when a diagnosis is official would, I believe, be when your specialist confirms the diagnosis and for insurance purposes if you had a claim the insurer may well want to see written confirmation from them to prove the date of official diagnosis.

  • Just an update Albert & Eddie will not quote if the diagnosis is less than 6 weeks ago. Wish they had asked me this question first as I wasted an hour on the phone with them

  • Hi

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved. Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads yet as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance there?
