Been quoted over £3,000 for a two week holiday to Spain for 1 person.
Diagnosis is metastatic renal cancer with 2-3 years life expectancy. Currently having chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Is this really the best price out there. It was the only option that came up when they searched.
They wouldn't even offer us a yearly policy only a one trip policy.
So much for doing some of his bucket list trips.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
Hi ETERNAL HOPE and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to get reasonably priced travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved and sometimes you can only get single trip cover.
Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads yet as you'll find lots of suggestions for reasonably priced travel insurance there? If not, have a look through them and make a list before settling down to get quotes.
I do hope you can get some reasonably priced insurance and have some lovely holidays.
Anne
Thank you, yes these were two of the recommended providers on there. It seems as soon as it's metastatic and terminal prices shoot up. At this rate hubby is saying he won't bother getting insured which freaks me out!
Hi
I would check the travel insurance companies definition of 'terminal' as, from previous posts I've seen in this group, it means there's no more treatment available and either 6 or 12 months life expectancy. You say that your husband is receiving treatment and has been given a prognosis of 2-3 years.
Anne
Have you tried insurancewith or albert&eddie? The former is an insurance company and the latter a comparison site - but both under the same holding company.
They use a different question set to the majority of others which is different on the "terminal" question and is also more detailed generally, although I'm not sure if they will be able to help? I hope they can.
Derek.
Good morning
Definitely try Insurancewith I have metastatic stage 4 bowel cancer and used them a few times. Been to Cyprus France and off to Prague today!
Has your husband been in hospital recently as that can cause price to escalate? Also try getting a fit to travel letter from your consultant (ask the secretaries) it's not always required but a good idea.
Don't even think of going without any insurance.
If you really can't get insurance plan a trip in England so you have sometime to look forward to - we all cross fingers for a nice summer here Then look again in a few months time if treatment regime is stable.
Good luck
Caroline
