Travel insurance

After spending a full, exhausting week trying to get travel insurance to visit family in America, and having had quotes of up to £3500 for a 10-day trip, I finally found reasonably priced insurance for under £1000 (multi trip) with InsuranceWith. They actually have on their list of blood disorders, the very rare condition Idiopathic Lymphocytopenia (or ICL) which meant I didn't have to explain it or spell it or wait while they spoke to a supervisor who had never heard of it either - and they also covered my Lymphoma.

  • Hi  and I see it's your first post so welcome to the community......

I am Mike and I help out around our General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma and T-cell lymphomas support groups.

I was looking through the unanswered posts and your post caught my eye....... as you are the first person I have seen that has Idiopathic CD4+ T-Cell lymphocytopenia (ICL) post on the community.

I have been on my journey with two different types of rare T-Cell NHLs for over 25 years.

Well done even getting a price for insurance...... I had to be 2 years out from my last treatment......

    Have a great trip.

  • Thanks Mike! I was diagnosed with ICL in 1995 and I'm still going strong!

  • Also, if anyone out there has T-Cell lymphoma, I had it 30 years ago when I was a young mum. I had 5 years of treatment and I've been in remission now for 20 years. Never give up.

  • Hi. I too had issues with travel insurance.  I have NHL but have been on watch and wait for about 20 years. Insurers aren’t interested in that as no action for over 5 years. Then I was diagnosed with Myeloma just after covid and had chemo and a stem cell transplant.  That became a real problem.  I had a yep to Australia arranged and I eventually got 3 weeks cover for £1500.  Most insurers would not cover me.  I had weaned myself of string painkillers and was officially in remission and taking maintenance immunotherapy.  My bank included travel cover but would not cover the Myeloma. They have changed their insurance provider to Allianz and they do cover it for an additional premium. £184 for 10 months world wide AND winter sports are included. Well done Allianz and NatWest
