Hello there I'm new to your group. My husband has non hodgkins lymphoma and is receiving chemotherapy. He is nearing the end of his treatment and doing really well. It's likely that he has two more rounds to go. We are now starting to look at holidays and hoping to go away mid March and of course don't want to book anything without getting some insurance sorted first. I've not looked at any companies as yet and was hoping that one of you lovely people could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance of your help .
Hi Jackiemm and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I know how difficult it can be to get reasonably priced travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis.
That's great to read that your husband is nearing the end of his treatment and that you're starting to think about holidays again.
Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads yet as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance there? If not, it's best to go through them and make a list before settling down to get quotes.
Let me know how you get on and I hope you can find some suitable cover so that you can go ahead and book your holiday.
Hello Jackiemm,
I think the only way to find out if you can get cover, and the cost, is to try a couple of quotes from specialist insurers. Many use Insurancewith who specialise in cover for cancer sufferers and one or two have mentioned Albert&Eddie (part of the same group using the same base policy wordings). I have just taken out an annual worldwide with the latter which was competitive price-wise and gave cover I was happy with.
However (and I don't want to intentionally dampen your plans) I think you might struggle to get quotes until your husband completes his chemo course and perhaps for a few weeks after. I completed chemo about 3 months ago and couldn't find anyone to provide a quote until after it was done. It's a pain in the neck because, like you, we wanted to plan a trip to look forward to but just had to be patient.
I hope you can get sorted as soon as his treatment is done.
Derek.
