My eye was removed because of an ocular melanoma and does not need more treatment, my liver was clear at last scan. Trying to find travel ins but unsure of wordings and what I need to declare

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Basically, you need to be completely honest with your answers because, if you're not and you need to claim, you may find your travel insurer refuses to pay out.

The usual sorts of questions are things like

    • have you had a cancer diagnosis in the last ..... years
    • are you still having treatment
    • are you on any medication
    • have you visited a hospital doctor in the last ..... years

If I'm not sure how to answer a question then I phone the insurer and go through the quote over the telephone. That way you can tell them about your cancer diagnosis and let them decide how to respond to the question.

If you need recommendations from others who have successfully got travel insurance after a cancer diagnosis then take a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads.

    I hope this helps

  • One of the questions I’m not sure how to answer is - am I having ongoing treatment. Does going for 6 monthly scans count. Last one was clear. I have an appt with The eye consultant but think just to have a look at wound as he told he they’d got the melanoma. The eye doesn’t need any more cancer treatment. Does this mean I’m clear at the moment Shrug‍♀️

  • Hello Norm65,

From what you briefly describe I'd say the routine / planned tests you describe would not count as ongoing treatment. However, I'd suggest you 'phone the insurer to double check so you can rest assured you have answered correctly.

This might also mean you get better terms in some cases.

    I hope you get sorted.

  • Hi

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday to reply to you but I agree with the advice from excavator that the best thing to do is speak to the insurer to make sure that you're answering the questions correctly.

Let us know how you get on.
