Basal cell carcinomas

I had 2 BCCs removed last year. Standard insurers are putting it in same category as skin cancer which can spread & my premiums have tripled. Any recommended insurers for looking at exact cancer? My wife had breast cancer 6 yrs ago so preferably insurer who only asks for last 5 yrs history. Thanks

  • Thanks for this information. Very frustrating. I have just managed to get travel insurance with Aviva by asking them to exclude my cancer.  I am between operation and treatment at the moment. You have to go through a routine to arrive at the exclusion but agent was very efficient.

  • Thanks I'll give them a try. Just got a quote from Saga £400 cheaper than any others. Some advantage of being old!

  • I paid £112.18 for single trip for about 3 weeks to a sedate holiday in our  holiday home by excluding my breast cancer.  BCCs should  not  be a hassle!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm very surprised that the travel insurers you've approached so far have increased your premiums because you have had BCCs removed. Both my husband and I have had one removed and certainly last year, it didn't increase the premiums.

Have you had chance to look at the recommendations in the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.

Most people recommend that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Do come back and let us know how you get on
