Hi, I’m looking into a short break in New York but the insurance quotes are through the roof, costing thousands. I have secondary metatastic breast cancer but I’m pretty well. Can anyone recommend an insurance company please. Thanks Ali
Hi AliWtem
A short break in New York sounds lovely but, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis.
Have you had chance to look at the recommendations in the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.
Most people recommend that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
Do come back and let us know how you get on

Hi Latchbrook, Thanks for this advice. So far I’ve either been turned down or have to pay £1800.00. Crazy as I’m healthy!
I tried those links but you’re right, I’m going to start phoning as it’s easier to explain my condition. Thanks Ali
I hope you're able to get some insurance that's a bit more reasonable than £1800!

Hi Tracie1968
I'm sorry to read that you're also having difficulty getting travel insurance for a trip to America that you've already booked. You could have a look at the recommendations in the threads that I've linked AliWtem to if you'd like.
I'm not sure if you're proposing to try and find travel insurance that excludes your cancer when you said
I'm taking out basic insurance just to cover normal illness
or if you were thinking of not declaring your cancer diagnosis. I do believe that some people have been successful in getting travel insurance that excludes their insurance and you could search the group for these recommendations.
If you were meaning though, that you were not going to declare your cancer, you might find in the event of a claim, that the insurance company would not pay out because they would say that you had not declared your whole medical history.
I do hope that you're able to get the insurance cover that you need an that you have a lovely holiday.
