I've just got the all clear for bowel and liver cancer with just checks to keep an eye on me and I want to go to Australia for 3 months and can sign on to medicare when I get there.

I have 2 grandchildren I haven't seen yet and 2 insurance companies have turned me down.

Any advice please.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

A trip to Australia to visit your family sounds wonderful but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to get travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis.

Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.

Most people recommend that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Do come back and let us know how you get on

    That's great news!

I've just had a look in the recommended travel insurance thread and okaytotravelinsurance.co.uk hasn't been recommended before. When you have a minute would you be able to put your recommendation there as well please so that others will find it in future. To get there just click on the link I've created.

I hope you have a lovely holiday

  • Hi Sharp88, hope you are having a fabulous time in Australia. Just wondering if you found any difficulty getting a visa? Did they ask any questions regarding your medical history, for the health requirements section?

  • No the visa us straight forward and easy, you need your passport. Go to the Australian government website and look for evisitor (subclass 651) and follow the instructions. I'm already registered with them so I just log on, good luck

  • Thank you. I was worried it might be more difficult than a few years ago.
