Hello Everyone :-)
Having been refused at least 4 times by the biggest specialist cancer Insurers lately and quoted an extortionate rate of almost £200 by All Clear for a 7 day trip to spain???? and who by the way didn't seem to know what they were talking about, to some other companies who were quite frankly rude when I could tell they were reading from an Automated message to tell me, sorry I cannot help you any further today........:-( Oh and refuse to tell you why! Not nice at all, but I know the reason, they just don't want to say it! CUP!
Cancer with an unknown primary is one of the hardest Cancers to get any Insurance cover for!
Most Companies won't touch you once they know the Cancer has spread from an Unknown Primary which is very common for people with Head & Neck Cancer
I had an Unknown Primary but the Specialist strongly suspected it started at the back of the throat somewhere near the tonsil which then moved to my lymph Nodes in the Neck. I had a Right Neck Dissection and had 60 Lymph Nodes removed, 15 were found to be cancerous. I had 2 rounds of 8 hour Chemo and 30 days of Radiation.
I completed All treatment in September 2019 and now only have to have 4 monthly check ups as an outpatient with the cameras and I'm on my way home :-)
SO:- For Insurance purposes, I have been cancer free (having had it removed) for over 2 years, 3 in September. I'm Insured at the 1-3 years Cancer free Rate.
Yesterday, I contacted Aviva, mostly known for their Brilliant Car Insurance, I know it's brilliant as that's when you really know the true worth of an Insurance Company when you have to make a claim right? :-) which I've had to do with them in the past and they were Amazing.
So... Aviva.co.uk gave me FULL Comprehensive Travel Insurance with extra Luggage Cover for 7 nights at the total cost of £64.50 I received my travel documents immediately via email and the paper documents will arrive in the post within a few days.
The Documents are clear and precise of the exact documented Cancer Cover.
The staff were amazing, friendly, efficient and professional especially 'Mohammed' and 'Suzanne' I will NEVER bother with another Insurance company again, I will be straight back to Aviva for a trip I may want to book for October this year otherwise I would have got an annual policy which I can still purchase in October if I decide to go.
They make sure you have all the relevant telephone numbers you need for when you travel e.g.
Aviva UK Claims telephone number
Aviva Emergency Assist 24 Hour Number for outside UK
Aviva Customer Services Number UK
I cannot tell you the relief of obtaining this Insurance for my forthcoming trip next month.
Here is the link Guys, just give them a ring, you'll be in safe hands :-) Oh and no, I don't work for them ha ha
If anyone else gets the perfect service I've just received then I'll be happy, just wanted to spread some good news for a change :-)
Gill
Oh Gill, I'm so sorry to hear this, how awful! I hope you are starting to feel a bit better.
Can't believe they didn't help you in A & E even though sent with a letter, very disappointing.
I have some good news for you and that is that I have got insurance for Rich with the same company that guy got two weeks in the Maldives for £135 - £30 for a week in Madeira and so we are off in June. Thanks so much for all your help with the insurance. If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be going. He is delighted
Oh wow! Fantastic News!
Which Insurance company was that with again please? I thought you were unable to get Insurance with Aviva or am I thinking of someone else?
I'm absolutely thrilled for you.
As for me, I'm on blood thinners and a CT Scan at 3.10pm today fingers crossed.
I won't be going anywhere for a while, I didn't claim on the Insurance as my friend decided to take her husband for an early 60th Birthday present so I have been reimbursed. :-)
My health is far too important to me and I can always book again in the future when I'm better :-)
Please can you just confirm which Insurance company gave you such an amazing quote?
Thanks
Gill x
Hi Gill, so sorry to see what’s been happening with you recently and that you’ve had to cancel your trip. It’s so bad that you’ve been fobbed off by so many people in your quest to get an answer. My husband had a blood clot in his arm following chemo, above where his picc line had been. We were told it’s a common occurrence, thankfully he was treated very quickly but I think that’s because we used the emergency phone number we’d been given by his oncology department. Like you we’ve learnt the hard way, trying to do things via GP’s and some hospital departments is just hopeless.
Your trip sounds really good, we hope to do some more trips around the UK and will definitely look at some of those places you visited. If you ever get the chance to visit the Scottish Highlands I can highly recommend, we spent 16 nights travelling around them last summer and it was fantastic.
Good luck with your ongoing treatment.
I’m glad you got your money reimb and hope you can book a trip very soon.
can you travel in the U.K. or do you need to stay at home at the moment ideally?
that’s right I couldn’t get insurance with Aviva, even tho some have had success. I got it with “insurancewirh”. You have to complete quite a long medical declaration but their questions seemed much fairer.
all the best with treatment
Hi Coco
Thank you so much for your response, I can't believe I wasn't given any of this information by the Oncology Department :-( It was the Private Consultant that told me Cancer Patient Treatment was a factor and that I would be susceptible to it.
I was sorry to hear about your husband but as you say thank goodness it was caught early!
I had 2 rounds of Chemo and 30 days of Radiation after my neck dissection, which I finished in September 2019, no one wants to go through all that only then to be put in danger of a blood clot as well :-( I can't believe it was never mentioned to me by Oncology.
This last month has been an absolute nightmare and I have been made to feel like I'm some kind of hypochondriac :-(
I am astonished at the Macmillan Nurse to be honest, but there we have it.
Thank you for sharing your trips with me, Scottish Highlands is definitely on my wish list but only in the summer ha ha
I still can't quite believe that I haven't been to Scotland yet :-0 I'll definitely give it a go!
Take Care and thank you again :-)

Hi
I completed treatment for Breast Cancer in Feb this year ( surgery radiotherapy and now hormone blockers for 5 years) I also have spinal osteoporosis
I was able to get annual world wide ( Inc USA) for myself and my partner ( who has a number of pre existing conditions) for £200 which I though was reasonable for the level of cover. It was with PayingTooMuch and all our respective health histories have been fully disclosed
Hope this helps
