Hello so my mum has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, she came home Sunday evening.
We have carers coming but mum is struggling to accept them, its so hard as I've said I can't physically do everything .How do you cope im completely all over the shop, she's also not really wanting to eat either. Its just awful to see them so frail x
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both supportive and informative.
Something I find quite helpful is looking at Your feelings when someone has cancer as being able to recognize these emotions and accept them as part of the new normal can help make them feel less overwhelming and also that we are not alone.
I have heard of people who have tried the suggestion that the carers are there to support them in providing the best care rather than so much for the patient - sometimes it seems to work. Trying to cope on our own can be so exausting and that really helps nobody.
Our GP is also very supportive of me and that is quite helpful as after all if I get ill the NHS can easily pick up 3 patients - me, my wife and our son.
Quite a few patients find eating the only thing they feel in control of and it can become something of a stuggle between carer and their loved one. Pehaps the best solution is to choose not to play, they are in charge but of course they could end up in hospital if they get too unwell.
<<hugs>>
