My husband was diagnosed with a rare cancer four years back and since had surgery radiotherapy immunotherapy chemo and immuno recently again but nothing has helped and whilst the cancer has not spread to different parts of the body it has become bigger. It's on his head and impacting the brain and main nerve of the human body. He has now lost vision in the past month and I'm more angry than sad because I have cried for four years and more. My children are very small. I have spoken to them about it but sometimes feels like they don't understand. I have no family here to support me and I quit my job two years ago hoping he would be better.

I'm really nervous and struggling to cope. How best to support him. He has been very busy with work all his life but now he wants to mend everything before anything happens. We have been told it's only a few more months but not certain because no one knows how the disease will behave.

My husband does not like to talk so we havent told much to wider family or friends but now I do feel like I need some support and I'm okay but not okay.

I really want to support him and the kids but juggling summer holidays and hospital appointments and his medication whilst he can't see is a big deal. I get no breaks. My mum who live abroad in has been with me for three months and extended her stay for another two months. So that has been a huge help child care wise. I don't know what other kind of support might be available. Should I reach out to hospice team? Not sure how my husband would feel about it because he doesn't want people to see him like this. Some of his friends and my cousins and uncles want to come meet him. They all.love abroad but I don't know what to tell them. I feel sensitive saying no because it might upset them.

Just sharing so I feel like someone is listening to me without a judgement. Thank you for this forum

  • Hello Ckk, Im sorry to read what you are going through and this is indeed a good place to chat, ramble etc. We support each other without judgement because we havd all been there or are there. My husband had a rare sarcoma which didnt respond to any treatment, then took him quite quickly last October. I was his sole carer.

Please reach out to the hospice, good ones, as ours is, were a lifeline, supporting both of us and still support me now. Does he have a cancer care team or he he been referred back to the GP? They can help with a referral to the hospice. Talk to your husband, I framed it that I wanted support, but once referred in, he was happy with their support.

I tried to get people to visit him tiwards the end, some didnt want to, but he got comfort from sort saying but not saying goodbye in his way. Can you ask him what he wants you to tell family?

Talk here any time, we understand how difficult this road is.
