Hi ,
new to the group
my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer four weeks ago. We are going through the motions of putting things in place. We have McMillan on board occupational health, but we’ve been told that she will not get free care as she is terminal So no cares going in to help her
my mum is 78 both me and my sister work full-time. I can’t afford to pay for carers to go in and help her on a daily basis. We are trying our best to keep her comfortable bed and cleaned any advice please get in touch
Both me and my sister are really struggling at the moment mentally and physically trying to get things into place
sorry for babbling, but just don’t know what we can do
Hi Loopy, and welcome, though I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, can I suggest you call your mums GP and ask for a referral to your local hospice and their palliative care team, and the district nurses, the hospice and their palliative care team are not just for end of life, I have had mine for 18 months now, and they have been so helpful when needed, they will manage any pain and make your mum as comfortable as they can, so your mum can make the most of what time she has, and the district nurses will be able to access any specialist nurses, equipment and products your mum may need, and maybe any homecare specific to your area, having cared for my mum when she had terminal lung cancer, I know what a difficult time this is for your family, so my best wishes to you all.
Eddie xx
