Hi all,
I am new here and found this forum in a long googling wormhole.
I'm looking for some advice or even someone who can share their story.
My mum who is 50 has been diagnosed with lung cancer. And here are the words and technicalities of everything on her letters.
Firstly it is noted as T2a N3 M1a right upper lobe lung cancer with metastases to the right supraclavicular node and possible metastases to be adrenal gland - probable adenocarcinoma.
Now we have all information.
Stage IV Metastatic lung Adenocarcinoma. which spread into her right lymph node. Now i remember her nurse saying it is a late stage 3 but they are treating it as stage 4. Is this something they usually do? Treat it as one up?
We are still waiting for the treatment plan and how they will treat it but they said more than likely chemoimmunotherapy. She is currently in hospital with and infection for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. And the first time they decided to blast the neck with radiotherapy for a week. It reduced the big lump massively.
Has anyone's loved ones had this? I have read the booklet 100 times and still cannot understand these terms. I know its incurable but I don't understand what incurable means. Will she have to have treatment to keep her here? Or can it go and eventually come back?
I have a lot of social anxiety so i am scared to ask these questions face to face.
Hi Zoee92 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and it's natural to want to understand what her diagnosis means.
As you know, the online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you also join the lung cancer forum as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your mum.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Zoee92
I'm very sorry to read of your mum's diagnosis. I am incurable but have not had the same type of cancer so I hope you don't mind me responding to you. If you click on my username, sistermoon, you can read my profile. It sounds that your mum is able to have 2 types of treatment, so that is good.
Incurable cancer means that once cancer has left the primary site and travelled distantly in the body via the lymph system, it is classed as systemic and can't be cured. At my end of treatment appointment with the oncologist, he told me that there was no evidence of active cancer on the CT scan but that doesn't mean it's not there. There will be random cancer cells in my body trying to find a way to multiply somewhere else. My only effective treatment is chemo but it loses it's effectiveness over time. Therefore, eventually the chemo won't work or my body will be so depleted by treatment that I will not be fit enough to have it.
Curable cancer is when cancer cells are contained in the affected organ and can usually be cut out with surgery. The stage refers to where cancer has spread to, or not, and the grade refers to how fast or slow growing it is.
I hope that I have made things a little clearer for you. Very best wishes for your mum's treatment.

Hey sistermoon.
I'm sorry about your diagnosis! But my goodness this explanation is perfect and in a way I understand!
Thank you so much! I will give your profile a read now!
