Capecitabine chemotherapy tablets

Hi everyone

My dad started these tablets Wednesday night,  not as a possible cure, but to hopefully give him slightly longer with us. He hasn't felt sick or unwell so far, but the fatigue is overwhelming him. He's struggling to stay awake. I know fatigue is a side effect of both cancer and the medication,  but I wondered whether this level of fatigue is usual.  Has anyone had experience of this?

Thanks

Diane

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your dad is struggling with fatigue which, as you rightly say, can be as a result of the cancer and/or chemotherapy. Have you been able to speak to the chemo unit about this as they be able to offer something to help?

This booklet from Macmillan deals with cancer related fatigue and gives information on how to deal with it.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so it might also be a good idea to join and post in the group relating to your dad's cancer as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer and who may be on the same chemotherapy. You could either let me know what type of cancer your dad has, and I can then give you a direct link to the group, or you could look through this list.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
