My mum has just been diagnosed with bile duct cancer with secondary cancer in the abdomen and vein to liver. They have said no treatment is available. She is 89 with arthritis, article hips and a pacemaker. The senior doctor dealing with this would not give a timescale, but a junior one said in good health the timescale is only 3-6 months. We are not sure what happens next in terms on what will happen to her physically and mentally and how best to support them.
Hi decay
I'm sorry to read of your mum's diagnosis and prognosis. I would contact your mum's GP and ask for a home visit. He/she will assess how your mum is currently coping, if she needs referring to any services and will refer for a district nurse visit. Usually the DNs will guide you, they will do assessments and have everything in place for when your mum is becoming frail and more unwell. Make sure that you, yourself have some family support. It is a hard thing to go through. The best advice I can give you is to ensure your mum is as comfortable, pain free and peaceful as possible. Best regards.
