Evening all, my family member has terminal cancer, we’ve known for about 6 weeks and have been given 10 months. I know a friend of friend who has had the same diagnosis and has given so many recommendations of supplements to take and help with the side effects of chemo. However they seem to have given up and we are trying to stay positive and explain many successful stories. I know that we have no right, as we are not in their shoes. But I don’t know how to approach it, if we are not positive, it is a very somber atmosphere. I’m struggling of what to do or the right thing to say or how to approach it.
Hi Pad
sorry to hear about your family member's situation.
I've been supporting my husband through his stage 4 brain tumour journey since he was diagnosed in Sept 2020. Right from day one I promised to support him to the end and support any decisions he made, whether I agreed with them or not. I still feel that way even though we are nearing the end of the journey.
Supporting someone is hard but we need to remember that we are not the ones living with the diagnosis. Our role is to be there for them when they need us. There's some great information on the main body of the website that might help here Supporting someone | Macmillan Cancer Support
There are no hard and fast rules here but I'd be led by what your family member wants/needs.
