Hi all,

My mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer but started getting severe headaches with blurred vision, so she had a head CT and last week we're were told the lung cancer has spread to her brain.

The family is in obvious shock, nobody's quite sure how to process the news.

I've been my mum's primary carer but now I'm worried that I'll not be enough help or do something wrong for her...

This has all happened so fast

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear the news about your mum. It must have been an awful shock for her and the family. Have the docs discussed whether your mum will be well enough to have any treatment? If not, it may be an idea to contact her GP and request a home visit. This will be the time to discuss your concerns and whether you need carers as support, district nurse visits, Marie curie overnight carers etc. The GP surgery usually put all this is place for you but as services differ regionally I will list support for you below

    Carers trust www.carers.org.uk Tel 0300 772 9600

    Carers UK www.carersuk.org.uk Tel 0808 808 7777

I hope in the last couple of days that someone has been in touch with support for your mum, yourself and the family.

    A x

  • Thank you for your reply and advice, A nurse has phoned about an appointment with cancer team again on the 11th May. They're still waiting on one biopsy result from pathology for markers.

    They have mentioned immunotherapy

Her steroids have been put up quite a bit in the last couple of days. She's not in pain but very tired, well exhausted.

  • Pleased that you've got some sort of plan and support, take care,

    A x
