Hi
My husband has been given just weeks. Lots of support has started and today adult social care got in touch. They are going to cone and help twice a day especially with his stoma. Anyway, the lady said she hoped to get funding for it as it is medical not social but we may have to pay. He is only 51.
Whilst I will find the money, I have no idea how much. What sort of costs is having a cater twice a day to do personal care and change the stoma etc likely to cost ? Thanks x
Hi Mrs Px
Sorry to hear about all that you're going through. We've not quire reached the carer stage yet and I believe every health authority is slightly different. It might be worth a call to your GP to confirm the full details.
You might also want to give the MacMillan helpline a call to see if there's any support they can offer in your area. You can reach call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, benefit and financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Hope you get it all sorted out soon.
love n hugs

Sorry to hear about your husband MrsPx
On a practical note .. have you applied for PIP for your husband? The payments should help relieve some of the financial burden of paying for Carers.
Your application will be fast-tracked due to your husband's medical diagnosis.
Remember to take time to look after yourself as well x
Thank you. The GP is fantastic and very caring so I feel they are supporting. Caters are coming twice a day now and helping with practical things.
thongs seem to have settled into a pattern each day. We have now been told it looks like days rather than weeks so I am making the most of my time with him.
thanks for the virtual hugs - it means alot x
Thanks. Macmilluan benefits suppor TV team have done all the applications for pip etc. might be too late to benefit as g hit e only has days left but that’s fine.
Im not paying for the carers, that is being funded as it is medical need - no idea what the difference is but I’m grateful anyway.
Thank you
Hi, I thought everyone with cancer was entitled to care through the NHS I think it’s called continuing healthcare and it’s free. My gran had carers through continuing health care we would have had to pay if we went through any other route
My mum is receiving palliative care at home. MacMillan sorted out something called attendance allowance which she is receiving weekly I believe, and all other care so far has been free due to it being medically required and not socially.
We have a central contact number in our county for care, which is then managed by different people, but includes equipment, palliative / community nurses, occupational health nurse and carers.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
