Hello, my mum has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and is preparing herself for not surviving much longer. My dad also has Parkinson’s, so I am feeling very overwhelmed. I am only 19, and never thought this would be our reality so young. If anyone has anything that has helped them get through this time, I would love to hear it.

  • Hi Naomi, I’m so sorry you are going through this. My dad has incurable cancer (second diagnosis after being declared cancer free in April 2021) and if I’m honest I literally take it one day at a time. I let myself cry and feel rubbish some days then other days I push myself and get out and about. I have found this forum really helpful and I have also started doing big jigsaw puzzles to keep my mind busy and actually they have really really helped. I keep listening to music, particularly music that me and my dad love as its comforting that its something we share.

I’m not hard on myself and I let myself feel whatever it is I’m feeling each day.

Sending you love and best wishes, keep talking about it with people, I find it helpful. My inbox is always open if you need a chat. X

  • Thank you so much for the reply. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. You certainly give good and reassuring advice. I hope you are finding as much comfort as you can. Puzzles are a great idea, I will definitely give that a go. Keep being kind to yourself and staying strong, I wish you all the best x

  • Thank you, be kind to yourself too! I have purchased many puzzles in the last few weeks. Mostly Disney ones because they are more fun! :) x
