Hi all, I'm not really sure where to start. Sister has survived breast and ovarian cancer over the duration of 22yrs. Our dad lost his life to coronavirus at the end of September and the day after his funeral, sister received the T-AML diagnosis. So much to take in and I don't really know where to turn. She's very 'matter of fact' about her situation but won't really discuss her treatment, prognosis is etc I do know her leukaemia is more than likely due to previous chemotherapy and at her consultation she was given 3 options of treatment and chose to have chemo injections as an outpatient for 7 days then has 21 days at home taking "a tablet". Unfortunately that's all she will tell me for her own reasons whatsoever they be be (ie. To protect me as the passing of our dad really hit me hard). I'm trawling the Internet but don't even know what I'm looking for in all honesty..... PensiveIts 1.30am and yet again I can't sleep so here I am, reaching out .... Pensive.Jo

  • Hi I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing and your sister's recent diagnosis.  Apologies also that your post has gone unanswered for so long.

It's hard supporting someone with cancer especially if they don't want to give you all the information but unfortunately you have to take your lead from your sister.  I had breast cancer and to this day my family don't know, some of us just find it easier not to share.

Whatever you do don't start looking on the internet as the information isn't always accurate or up to date and often focuses on the worst case scenarios which will just worry you more.

If you need support or information you can also call MacMillan (see number below).

Wishing you and your family all the best.
