Hello,

Three weeks ago our family life got turned upside down when my mother went from being fit and healthy to having advanced cancer requiring palliation. We are desperately trying to get her home but she’s deteriorating faster than anyone has expected. I feel like I can’t breathe most days as everyday there’s something new, internal bleeding, PE, confusion..... she’s terrified and I have no way of comforting her. All she wants is to be home.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice? I’m terrified she’ll suffer if we bring her home but also terrified of disappointing her and the rest of the family if we don’t...  I’m a health care professional yet I’m only functioning as an emotional daughter..

Thank you for reading,

R

  • Hi Friendlyuser, I’m so sorry that you, your family and your mum are experiencing such overwhelming heartache and distress, I think everyone on here has felt the same at some point, I’m no expert but maybe if you contact your GP, they can help. I know others on this forum have contacted their local hospice and it seems they do offer support, as little or as much as you need.

Sending you a big hug...budge xx

  • Hello Friendlyuser,

There seems so little that I am able to add, which budge13 hasn't mentioned already. But I wanted to respond, wanted you to know that you are not alone and also to say, disappointing loved ones is often something that we visualise, it is often far from the truth, just being there for our loved ones whenever we can, as much as we can is often all they ask, but individually we want to be able to do so much more.

Please go easy on yourself, your current experience is being hard enough on you as it is.....Hopefully Mum is getting the best possible care.

Thinking of you at this extremely emotional time.
