So my dad has terminal cancer. He married to my stepmum. He doesnt have a will but she has said she will give all his money to her son. Dad doesnt want that. So now I'm left in a position with trying to sort it all out, get power of attorney and see solicitor when we are on lockdown.

Shes not really well enough to care for herself let alone him and my husband says that im not a carer so shouldn't be going to see him. I said I am carer or will be when I am out of isolation. So I absolutely will be.

I have spoken to Macmillan financial dept for help.

How do I sort it all with the new measures in place. Cant take him to solicitors or vice versa. What are terminally ill people supposed to do to get their assets in order? Power of attorney could take weeks. What if he does before its sorted? Solicitor wants to speak to Dad about it but cant do that as I'm in isolation and cant see him to arrange a telephone call.

This is keeping me awake at night. I dont know what to do.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you're finding it difficult to arrange for your dad to make a will and set up a power of attorney while we're in this period of self isolation. There must be lots of people in a similar situation.

The only thing that I can suggest is that you ring your dad's solicitor to find out how to proceed.
