Hi. I am a carer for someone with dementia and I've just found out I've got lymphoma. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and has any practical advice to give. I have been a carer now since 1998, first for my Dad who had lung cancer, and since 2000 for my husband with dementia and other health issues. He was diagnosed with dementia in 2014. I'm looked at as a strong person, but sometimes I feel so weak, not so much in the physical sense, but getting and saying things wrong in my husbands opinion. His dementia according to professionals is not advanced, but  still needs guidance and assistance on some things.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that you've just been diagnosed with lymphoma and on top of this you're a carer for your husband.

Can I point you in the direction of a couple of groups that I think you might benefit from joining. The first is the carers group, which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries, and the second is one of the lymphoma groups depending on which type you have. To search for the relevant group look in the Groups tab towards the top of this page.

To join just click on the link I've provided and then choose 'Join This Group' on the page that opens. You could then copy and paste your introduction from here into the new group after clicking on 'Start A Discussion'.

Hello. I'm in a similar situation. My husband had a stroke in 2008 and has aphasia. Two years ago he was diagnosed with vascular dementia. In addition I care for our teenage grandson. I have transformed follicular lymphoma and started treatment 4 years ago with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It's hard to know what to prioritise.
