I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. I can't seem it get my head round it.

My main worry is how we're going to manage financially. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I can and can't claim. I'm leaving my current job on 13th december and I'm supposed to be starting my new job on 17th december. What do I do if I can't start my new job as planned as I technically would be employed.

Also I have to have surgery to have the lump removed and also Chemo. How long will I need to be off work.

Sorry for all questions but I haven't got a clue where to turn for advice.

Hi Moffgirl, when I was first diagnosed a Macmillan nurse organised for a Macmillan adviser to come and see me to go through what I might be able to claim for. The in my area button may be of help to find a benefits advice centre near you, the link is below just put in your post code.

You may want to talk to the Macmillan support line when they are open on 0808 808 0000 (8am to 8pm) to get your head around all those questions milling around.

The breast cancer group will be able to give their experience of how long they had to have off work, I’ll put in the link below (I have a different cancer)
