Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.
Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?
Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.
Good morning. Home sweet home. The journey wasn't bad. I thought I would get impatient and irritated but I didn't. It went pretty quick. I was shattered on arriving home last night though and wasn't long in bed. Up and enjoying my day today but not planning on doing much. Having a chill day. No we didn't go to glenfinnan on the train. We tried but couldn't get a ticket. Sold out. Shame I would have loved that. But regardless we had a wonderful time.
Really pleased to hear you are doing so well. That's awesome news. How are you feeling today and what plans have you? X
Good afternoon Marie, and welcome home, though not surprised you arrived home shattered, have a similar trip planned for a couple of weeks time, and chilling sounds like a perfect plan.
Maybe next time you can see Glenfinnan viaduct from the steam train, but I'm so happy you all had a fabulous time in the Scottish Highlands, they really do have an affect on you
Been busy, nothing strenuous, Thurs, went to Cleethorpes and just sat on the beach for a couple of hours
Fri. hospital 7 hours for therapy 2 scans and gastroenterology appointment, and flu jab at GPs.
Sat, we went to Tropical world in Leeds, and lunch in Knaresborough,
Today was 3 of the grandkids birthday party, their birthdays are close together, so 1 big party instead of 3 smaller ones
Have done no driving since Tuesday afternoon but will go to exercise group tomorrow and be careful.
See surgeon early Wednesday, and should be off to Scilly's straight after, home Sunday as Mandy has a appointment on Monday.
Then day after, all being well, Lesley and I are going to Nairn in Scotland to see family.
Marie, will send you a friends message later today. take care, all of you
Eddie xx
Hi Marie, I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. It is unspoiled up there. We went to Tougal Cottage for our Honeymoon which was right on the loch side. That was 53 years ago last week! Yes in October. We took walking boots, wellingtons & waterproofs and the weather was beautiful and sunny but with an autumnal feel, it was dry and the golden leaves were falling. It was terrific to walk through them and hear them crunch under your feet!
I am sure you will remember your trip for a long time to come. It was a shame tickets were sold out for the Glenfinnan train but usually you need to buy them before you go! Time now to rest and reflect as it is a long trip!
Love Annette x
Good morning. Honestly Eddie I can't believe all that you do just after an operation. Absolutely incredible! You have done amazingly well. I know you would say the same to me to watch limitations and rest. It sounds like you've had a wonderful time. Well, aside from the hospital visits. I hope all went well there. I love knaresborough. It's a great place isn't it. Hope the birthday party went well. Sounds like it did. 3 rolled into 1. Sounds fabulous. I do hope you make scilly but I know if you don't it won't deter you in that you will go another time.
At hospital this morning for PICC line dressing changed. Yes, can't deny fills me with dread. The back from a wonderful holiday to hospital appointments. Booooohooooo lol And then back home for district nurses coming to redress the burns.
How are you today?
Thank you Annette. We had the most wonderful time. It was absolutely breathtaking. Blew me away. It was so calming and peaceful, sitting there usually sent me to sleep lol So relaxing.
Your honeymoon sounds beautiful. Ahhh wow bet you had such an amazing time. We said if we ever went again we would get a cottage overlooking a loch. A view is becoming important to me and that certainly is a view.
Hope you are keeping well and big love x
Hi Marie, Booooo indeed to hospital appointments, though there following you home now, which is better than traffic and waiting rooms, just a shame they don't give you a time. I hope everything goes well for you, PS how did nurse Dave do with your dressings, I'm sure he was perfect.
Thank you for the message, I have replied, but happy to keep in touch on here as we sometimes get visitors, thanks Annette,
I am being very careful, got my list of do's and don'ts from the surgeon and physically I feel OK.
See surgeon on Wednesday, if he gives me the OK, will go to Scilly's same day, taking 3 grandkids, last minute change, I was coerced at the party, but didn't take much coercing, I think they get free travel on the trains too, so Sheila's happy LOL, it's fab they are coming.
Had a lovely few days, but feeling the effects of being too inactive, exercise group today should help, legs only
I hear the goose fair is on. never been but thinking maybe tomorrow m, is it worth going?.
When are you planning your next holiday,
love Eddie xx
Good morning. Well, went to get the picc dressing changed and the nurse was struggling to draw blood. She got a little aggressive with the flush. What strange techniques she had. She caused me to feel unwell and I felt faint. I couldn't wait to get out and sat in the corridor a while before heading home. And then, the district nurse came and said they're not coming anymore to do dressing changes. They're saying that because I am not house bound and can get out and go on holiday I can go to the GP and get my dressing changed. The other times they said Dave can do it. I like the way they never even asked him, just told him!! They've dumped me Eddie, the cheek of it huh lol Dave did a great job and although he said he's happy to do it, given the choice he would rather the professionals do it.
That's lovely the grandkids going with you to scilly. They are going to have an absolute blast. As are you and Sheila. But yes, you need to make sure you get your rest as well. Take much care. I hope you get good news from the surgeon.
Oh no goose fair has finished. They have it at strange times. Think it's because we have different school holidays here. Grandson wanted to go but his holiday wasn't then. I've been once. It's a fantastic fair but ridiculously expensive. Gets packed as well.
Not sure when next going away. No doubt we shall arrange something when the need arises lol How are you today? I'm not up to much. Doing my washing lol Enjoy and take care X
Hi Marie, that's awful having to put up with that from the nurse, I think I would be asking to not be seen by her again, hope your feeling better now, you just don't need that.
My district nurse will help me any way she can, but can only visit for exceptional reasons, like you, normally if your not house bound, you don't qualify, I agree just saying Dave can do your dressings, without asking first is poor manners and unfair to Dave, hopefully your healing well and he won't have to do it to often.
I can't believe they have dumped you, can you still contact them if you have to, my DN is also part of the telephone nursing team and she calls me every week , and if I need anything she helps me out. Marie, I hope your DN can do something similar for you, they've been a big help to me
I can't forsee any problems with surgeon, so everyone is going to Leeds with me and we'll catch the train from there, somehow it's cheaper to Penzance from Leeds than Doncaster and the kids are free, will have to spend the night in Penzance though.
Thanks for the info on the goose fair, that was in case the surgeon had bad news, but I'm positive he hasn't
Been to exercise group, very careful again, and met my friends for lunch and a chat, had a massage, now Sheila, and I are just finishing off some baking to take with us PS cooked Poppy & Cassie many many sausages. I'm ok thank you Marie, very hopeful about brother and hopeful about Mandy, we will know more on Monday when we see her team, thank you for your PM details
love Eddie xx
Good morning. Sorry, I've caused confusion. The district nurses will only not come to the house to do the dressing changes for the burns. You're right, that's what she said because I'm capable they want me to go to the GP to get it done. They will still be here for anything cancer related when needed. It is what it is huh.
I hope everything has gone well with the surgeon and you are on route to Penzance. Have a blast, you all so deserve it. Glad your exercise went well and hope meeting with your friends lifted your spirits. Baking sounds wonderful. Everyone will enjoy eating that. Enjoy.
I'm at the hospital today for a scan. You may remember the tumour shrunk and oncology were unsure as to what had shrunk it, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Oncology sent me away to enjoy the moment and to let them know when there was a change. Well it started to grow a couple of weeks before we went to Scotland. I let them know and they booked the scan. I have an appointment with oncology tomorrow. Ugh lots of appointments this week. Not looking forward to the scan because of that injection of dye. Again, they generally don't use the PICC line and I have to have needles. Needles make me feel faint and unwell. Ahhh well I'll just have to go get job done huh.
Enjoy your time, have a super duper day and stay safe. Take care x
Hi Marie, no need to apologise,I'm easily confused especially after my PCA diagnosis, though I'm so relieved to know you still have your DNs on side, they are a big plus, not needed mine much but when I have they've been fab.
Seen my surgeon and cardiologist, the Op went well, and sutures out, and on our way.
We are near Cheltenham now having lunch, homemade yummies, won't make the ferry, so have a night in Penzance, we had to go well out of town to find a dog friendly place, but it's very popular with families.
I do remember Marie, it was great news and a little surprising that your tumour had shrunk, but I'm so sorry to hear it is growing again so soon, so today they will be trying to find the reason"s" why, starting with a scan, with contrast, so a canula, fingers crossed for a good nurse, I'm not sure if it's relevant to you, but you can have the contrast media administered anally, so no needles, be strong and as always my best wishes, looks like we will both be waiting for results, had some yesterday, let's hope our scan results are better, I had a CT+con, and a NM bone with technetium, so couldn't cuddle baby Mandy for 2 days.
Wish we had longer, but it is what it is and we'll have a wonderful and hopefully relaxing time, PS, our fellow passengers tucking into their railway sandwiches looked a little envious at our lunch, good job we always make too much, we now have new friends and a happier journey.
Will have everything crossed for your scan today and your oncology appointment tomorrow.
love Eddie xx
