The Book Club Thread

I am currently working my way through my Kindle book reserves while trying not to buy any more. I'd get one if it was for general discussion though.

For some reason book clubs are usually female so welcome Ulls!

What a great idea! The first book that I really enjoyed, that got me into my love of books, was Charles Dickens great expectations. There is an adaptation on bbc1 at the moment with Olivia Colman as miss Havisham….it is so good

I use a kindle generally and like to read about people's interesting jobs/ careers.

People have written about their lives as police officers, doctors, bin men, barristers etc. So really interesting stories, anecdotes from behind the scenes.

I am currently reading about a policewomans life in the force, jawdropping what she puts up with. Probably harder to deal with her colleagues than armed robbers!

That does sound interesting Chalkdust. What’s the title? I like reading about other people’s lives too. I can imagine that she did put up with a lot, there has been quite a lot in the media about how  misogynistic the police force still is. I heard a woman talking about her experiences on woman’s hour. She was made to feel in the wrong for being raped by another police officer. I was so shocked.
