Dear MacMillan,
I intend to post this as an open question in the incurables group on the MacMillan site as well as e mailing you about it.
Since the upgrade to the site a number of members continue to struggle to access the site.  Several of these are my friends and I am in the fortunate position that I can contact them outside of the site but I know that they are missing the community.  Members of the group rely upon the site to be able to access support, keep up to date with how others are doing and offer the benefit of their own experiences.  I know that for me it has become the first place I would look for advice and support about my cancer that I could not access via my oncology team.
I expect that it impacts upon all groups but I do feel that the lack of contact is particularly difficult in the incurables group whose common ground is that they will not get better and where a significant number of members die each year.  I hope that you are in contact with these members who are struggling to access the site but do know that some members feel like they are getting nowhere.  I find it upsetting to think that there are members out there who are facing death but not easily able to access the community.
I would be grateful if you could explain to the rest of us who have managed to access the site, what you are doing to resolve these issues and how long you think it will be before these issues are sorted and we can again talk to all our friends.
Thank you,
Gragon.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but how do I see my previous posts? I go to my profile, click on activity and it only shows me seven months worth. I would really like to go through my old posts - there re several things I want to/need to refresh my memory on.

It seems strange that we can see related posts from many years ago but not the posts from last year. Thanks for any help!

edited to add in case anyone else is struggling: I have located a few by going to  profile > activity > mentions. I've found some of my old posts but only the ones I was mentioned in - still, that will be a help for now!

  • Hi Ellen

Many many thanks for the update on what's happening and what efforts are going on to improve the site. I was a little critical lately about being in the dark as regards the work being done to the site.

You have come to the fore and given us a full explanation, something which I asked for but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that you would do.

In addition, you have given us a response to a recent survey in the form of pie charts that to me was surprisingly not what I expected because I had heard and read so much criticism. Have the pie charts been one of my dreams because I sure can't see a link to them in your second last post in this thread when I read back through your post.

I'm happy that you are being upfront about not being where you want to be with the upgrade. To read such honesty is a revelation. Thank you.

Please let me know about the pie charts, did I see them elsewhere? It's concerning to me!

Anyway, thank you Ellen, I am looking forward to further posts, further information from you.

  • Hi tvman,

Thanks for this - I'm glad to hear you have found the blog to be helpful. It's been really good for us to hear everyone's feedback as it's helped us to evidence issues our users are having and how we can resolve them.

You did see some pie charts, you can find them again here

We'll be sure to keep everyone updated, so please do keep an eye out for any further information.

We're doing everything we can in the background and we are always grateful for any feedback you might have. If you need any further information or support then please don't hesitate to get in touch with us on community@macmillan.org.uk

    Best wishes,

Thank you so much Steph, that is incredibly helpful!

  • Good afternoon Gragon,

Thank you for posting the above message,& I know you are right about members that are unable to access this site which is very important to all in this position.

I myself had a huge problem and the only way I was able to access this was via my Facebook password, which was more by luck than judgement. I am a relatively new member to this group & had moved over from the Womb Cancer Group which I was a member of for almost 5 years.

Have you any idea how Daloni is ? I have thought about her many times over the past few weeks.

    Take care, Georgette
