Hi
I don’t know if this is useful, but the government has issued its guidance on who is considered “extremely vulnerable” to becoming seriously ill if they get Covid-19 and what we should do to protect ourselves. Basically stay home for 12 weeks. It’s worth a read.
There’s a caveat about people with less than six months to live. It says:
“Shielding is for your personal protection, it is your choice to decide whether to follow the measures we advise. Individuals who have been given a prognosis of less than 6 months to live, and some others in special circumstances, could decide not to undertake shielding. This will be a deeply personal decision. We advise calling your GP or specialist to discuss this.”
You can read the guidance here:
Stay safe!
I got the letter today. My husband is also trying to avoid people to avoid infecting me. I’ve got a few people who’ve offered to do shopping but I’d really like to get priority deliveries. I’ve managed to register with two supermarkets and I believe they will be able to access the database. Fingers crossed.
I decided to give my GP's office a quick call this afternoon just to ask about it. They said they know absolutely nothing, they're not issuing anything and it was coming directly from government. I'd seen a link earlier in the week where you could register yourself if you didn't get anything so I figured there was no harm in doing so and I've done it today.
It was really quick and simple.
Link is
which supermarkets have you registered with? And could you only do it because you had a letter?
I need to write an email to Sainsbury's to tell them how disappointed I am that they are only prioritising delivery slots for people on the government list. There are people like myself who are disabled and unable to get to the shop, but we don't go on the government list, so they won't deliver to me.
I get that this is all happening quickly and they're having to make decisions on the fly, while there are complete and utter twats ruining everything. But these supermarkets need to realise that the vulnerable category doesn't end at the bottom of the government's list!

Heya
I believe you register on the website, then maybe next week or the week after - as the letters are going out until Sunday - they'll give companies and volunteer/Council organisations access to the list. Those companies will then reach out to those on the list with what they can do to help, or how to access the priority slots.
Don't take that as gospel, that's just what I've taken from the recorded messages I keep coming up against whenever I'm trying to get access to things.
Hope that helps!

Hi
That’s so weird! It’s the exact opposite of what my GP said. It’s all a bit of a muddle, isn’t it?
Ah OK. So just to clarify, when you say you've registered with them, do you mean that you've just signed up with an account, or that you've registered as vulnerable?
I I thought you were saying you'd registered as vulnerable, but I think you might have been saying you'd made an account with them?

I can’t see anyway to let them know I’m vulnerable. Sainsbury’s are ahead of the game by linking accounts with the database, but Catch 22 is that they’re accepting no new delivery customers. The others might catch up, but when is anyone’s guess. I have friends who will shop for us but I’d like to be independent.
