Chemobrain strikes again!!

Thanks to this lot making me sleepy and confused constantly over the fortnight instead of just while im connected to the pump and the couple of days after, my organisation over prescriptions and orders has fell behind. Therefore i have ran out of removal spray for my bag, and my prescription wont arrive for a week! (anyone else pee'd off that you need to phone a company to get in touch with your dr to get your prescription to get them to deliver it?! Why cant you just pick it up from the chemist when you need it?!)

Anyway, i started to ramble n get distracted there.

I have had to soak it with lots of water etc to try n remove bag, but my skin is v sore as its sensitive so i really do need the adhesive removal spray or the next best thing. So the point of this is to ask if anyone knows of anything i can use in its place that works better than the water thing or knows if i can buy the equivalent in a chemist or shop?  With the chemo my stoma is VERY active currently so changing my bag at least double the amount of times i usually would - which probably has had a hand in me not ordering in time!

Any hints or tips anyone knows could be very useful for me in the upcoming week!

I have an appointment with my oncologist today, but the last few times it has been his nurse who has seen me, so i am going to be cheeky and ask if they carry any removal spray and if i could get one - you dont ask you dont get, right?

However the thought occurs to me that this could be something that i or someone else encounters in the future so a thread on it, providing alternatives and tips for such things might be useful to us all.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and/or contribute to this discussion.

Most of all i wish you well in your own battles - love and positive vibes coming your way!

Have you tried ringing your stoma nurse - they often have samples which they can let you have, which will keep you going until your supplies arrive?

Lynnie, Please don't try with water as it makes them stick more. My suppliers you could phone up and they would do it in 24 hours in an emergency or 48 hours normally . Change company. I used Fittleworths and you don't have to get the prescription first. Also your stoma nurse should have a supply in her bag and she should be able to bring you some round. Ask them for some today and look at changing companies. Good luck and a big hug for the rough time cxxx

Thanks guys - uber quick responses!!

Dont worry about posting any Lainey, i am pretty sure i can either blag some from the nurse i see today or will try the other suggestions, but thank you anyway, that was v kind of you to offer to do that.

HellieC and Little My - nurse i see today isnt my stoma nurse, and its The Beatson (cancer hospital) im at today, not the one where my stoma nurse is - and unfortunately with only 2 stoma nurses the hospital policy is that they dont come to you, you have to go to them. She did offer to check my stoma for me last week (it was already checked that morning by my stoma nurse tho - day full of appointments, wasnt i lucky!) which makes me think surely they might have supplies kicking around. If i have no joy at the Beatson i will call my stoma nurse n see if i can drop in and raid her supplies, i just thought there may be other ways to help get the sticker to come off - you know like little old wives tales that come up with random things that have more than one use that could help.

And its Fittleworths i use Little My, but they take 10days as they get in touch with GP and get prescription OK'd then they post it out to you. If all else fails i will try calling Fittleworths back up to see if they can put a rush on the spray part of my order.
Thanks for all the advice x

I guess your doctors must have a different system to mine! We live in a very rural district so maybe that is why.. You can ask for samples of things from Fittleworths so you could ask them for samples of adhesive remover as they come first class post and don't need a prescription! The only thing u could imagine working is some kind of oil like olive or something but I would be careful when things are so sore . I used to find the adhesive removers more irritating sometimes than just pulling the bags off... You can get other types of bags too that are more gentle on the area maybe ask the nurse? Hope you get something sorted soon xxxx
  • phone your supplier they should send you a emergency supply
