Noisy colostomy & urostomy bags - any suggestions?

Hi,

I had such brilliant support from this forum pre-surgery (thanks!), I'm back with a question...

I now have both colostomy and urostomy. I use Hollister two piece system on both - which is excellent in terms of how easy the bags are to change, no leaks, and perfect skin....BUT the bags are noisy. I sound like I have two crisp packets tied to my waist. I'm very conscious of it and have definitely seen someone sitting near me notice the rustle.

Anyone found stoma bags that are quiet, ie don't rustle?

Many thanks

  • Hi

Ah, the crisp bag rustle! I don’t use 2 piece systems for either bag, but I use a convex Hollister urostomy bag and it definitely rustles-I am sometimes quite conscious of it. I’ve never found one over the years which doesn’t rustle.

For my colostomy, I use Salts Confidence B bags which are very neat- available in black, nude or white and don’t rustle at all-they are nice and soft.

I hope others might have suggestions and you can find something. I’d love a non rustling urostomy bag personally!

  • Hi Sarah, thanks - I'll check out Salts bags. If they don't have them in 2 piece, I'll give the one piece a go (did have one piece with tmeporary illeostomy). I think the Salts filters are anyway better than Hollister bag, so will have a go.

FYI I just saw somone on another forum mentioned Sensura Mio by Coloplast is quiet - gonna see if I can get some urostoymy in the Sensura. Will report back if it is!!  :-)

  • My Salts Confidence B bags are flat bags and are not to my knowledge available in a 2 piece system but it’s always worth checking out as I haven’t ever used a 2 piece with either of my stomas.

I’ve used Sensura Mio bags in the past but only for my colostomy when it was new and having a drainable bag was handy, but from memory they were pretty quiet. It’s been so long ago I’d forgotten about using them!

Request some free samples online from both companies and then you can try some out to see how they feel without needing to change your prescription yet. Good luck!

  • I use Coloplast Sensura Mio on both my urostomy and colostomy. Both are 2-piece systems and both are very quiet.

I had Hollister in the hospital and I do think they were a bit noisy.

If you don't want to change systems. A wrap or support belt with a pocket for the bags may help muffle the sound.
