Hi. I am going into hospital on 5th March to have my hernia repaired. I live alone, so would appreciate some advice on how I might cope once I am discharged. My surgeon told me I would not be able to lift anything heavier than a kettle of water for 6 weeks. I would be interested to know how people have managed, how much pain might I be in, how long before I will be able to get out for short walks etc.
Thanks
Kim
Hi Kim
Just popping in to wish you well for your surgery tomorrow. Hope everything goes smoothly and you’re soon back home recovering.

Those litter pickers are great. I should have thought of getting one. There's nobody to pick up after me, anything I drop will have to stay dropped until my sister visits. I lost a bit of grip in my hands after chemo too. I'm not sure it's come back properly but I had my chemo in 2019/2020. I still have neuropathy though. I'm feeling a bit anxious about tomorrow, but I have to be there for 7 am so it's going to be over soon.
Take care

Thank you Sarah. Hopefully I'll be home by the weekend. I know they won't let me home too soon as I live alone.

Hi Sarah. I know I said I'd share my experience but unfortunately, my op didn't go ahead. I was sent home as my surgeon was called to an emergency. I'd signed the consent form, spoken to the anesthetist, and then was called in to be given the news. They have a 28 day rule, meaning that if you get cancelled you will be called back within 28 days. Yesterday was 28 days from my last cancelled date. To say I'm gutted is an understatement, but these things happen and it's nobody's fault. Hopefully better luck next time

Oh Kim!
I’m so sorry to hear that-what a blow for you being geared up for it, and for this to happen twice is just awful for you.
I know things can happen like this, but I would have been devastated too. I really hope you don’t have long to wait and that nothing will stop it from going ahead next time.
Sending you a big hug, as I know you will be so disappointed and upset.
