  1. Hi what are peoples views on taking a daily multivitamin.I did ask ages ago when I had my last telephone check up with the colorectal nurse, who said that it wasnt necessary. However I am starting to think it might be a good idea but which sort are going to be best.

Thanks for any input.

  • Hi

I don't have the same type of cancer as you so I hope you don't mind me replying. My response will place your post back at the top where it will be seen by more members of the group. If you would like to speak to a nurse, I would recommend you ring the Macmillan helpline. This is the link to contact https://www.macmillan.org.uk/about-us/contact-us

I hope you get some answers to you question. Best regards.

  • Hi Kath

I took multivitamins and I thought that they gave me a boost. My daughter’s partner is of Chinese heritage and quite the expert on the best for the individual needs.

I felt that my gut bacteria was striped  which the prep alone does doesn’t it so I take Bio Cultures Complex plus insulin 45 billion bacteria now but they’re a food supplement capsule Pill which may not be good for an Ileostomy   I’ve checked and I can’t see how to open. They may need scissors and be a faff

I did feel when I had my Ileostomy my diet was not great and its not much better now

I think it may be an idea for you to list the vitamins that you are missing through your diet . Nuts is a prime example. Then you could give it a try.
Sorry my capsules aren’t really apt but this thread is a great starting point for others to add

  • Yes Ann I do worry a bit that my diet isnt  as good as it could be.Im trying to eat more fruit and veg but am always aware of peoples tales of blocking.

    Thanks kath

  • Yes that’s the concern. I remember having jaw ache eating nuts. So peanut butter was a good source. Although I’m reversed I blocked after my reversal as I have scar tissues or aka Whoopi lives

So I’m mindful of my bland diet.
Also my tummy is so sensitive now I am limited to what I can eat so definitely need supplements  Annx
