(Just an FYI - I posted this in the Chemo Group but subsequently felt the question may be better here...
I'm currently undergoing chemo, a mix of Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine. I first noticed two or three areas on my stoma were bleeding, this has continued for three days and now I've got blood coming out of the opening of the stoma too. I went to A&E through the Oncology Hotline and had all the tests and sent home. Sadly no concrete answers.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Or If anyone has any ideas? I thought originally I was fitting my bag on wrongly (doubtful as have had for 3 years) but I know this is not the case now.
Thank you.
Steve
Hi Steve
I didn’t have chemo but I did have a small amount of blood and burned skin around the base of my stoma where there was a gap between the fitting. My stoma nurses saw me and gave me Eakin slims and convex bags to protect the area and I was asked to air as much as possible. This was early days which you’re very experienced with stoma care
I still think it may be a good idea to see the experts. The Stoma nurses know their stuff and would be able to help. A phone call may help.
Hope it improves soon
Ann
