I have had a colostomy for 2+ years and have found an answer to my constipation problem using prunes and prune juice and wonder if others have had this experience and its problems. Despite 30g + fibre daily, my stoma needed additional encouragement. Laxido stopped being effective after about 6 months and Laxulose was a disaster. An early morning prune regime was discovered by trial and error but my bowel always likes the upper hand and, after 4-5 months of success, it suddenly changed timescale and decided that 2 a.m. was a good time to 'work'. Battling to get it back on course at present. Neither the consultant team or stoma nurses have been of any help whatsoever other than telling me that 'bowels are tricky things', so hoping that there may be others who have had first-hand experience.
Hi Wheatman,I have a urostomy following bladder removal three years ago.Post op my bowel stopped working and I got paralytic Ileus ending up with a nasal gastric tube.Since the urostomy my bowel habits have changed.I’m a night owl rather than a lark which is handy as my bowel likes to work best between midnight -2 am.It’s a nuisance if I go to bed earlier.I hope you can get your bowels back on track.Best wishes Jane
