Reversal how long should I wait?

As most know here I had a LAR August last year and before the op I was told two to three months however with the Covid situation it would be six

I had the blue dye test January that showed I would need an EAU to check that all was clear for a reversal. I was also told at my follow up that they thought that whilst under a GA if all was clear they would reverse me.
I thought that makes perfect sense as why have two lots of GA but it would mean I wouldn’t know before going in if I was able to be reversed. So I was told I would need a pre op

That was January

Previously my surgeon had said that reversals are best at two months and a maximum of six. Twelve months was not so successful

So here I am a couple of weeks away from the year and all my diary dates that were planned have been deleted. There’s not going to be a colonoscopy August because I haven’t been reversed. I’m waiting for a CT scan appointment and my CEA levels are due August

I am in a state of limbo really

How long did others wait before having a reversal and if over twelve months was it really difficult to gain bowel control?
Im seriously thinking of not bothering and booking a holiday!

  • Oh Artsie I dont know what to say.you really are having a dreadful time.

I just hope that things will get better.

Hope you dont feel sick with all the marshmallows and jelly babies!!!

The others have a point about low potassium.I had it after my op and also when I had new hips done.so keep up with the electrolyte drinks which you have mentioned you drink.

Chin up as they say although thats not easy in the circumstances

    Big hugs

    Kath

  • Hi Kath.
    Marshmallow yuck.
I’m drinking the isotonic like I did before. But everything tastes horrible. I can’t even swallow my Vimto and I loved that.
    I will keep plodding on

Hope you have a good day Kath x

  • I hope you can speak/see your doctor.I was shocked that the hospital let you out so soon with so little advice. It’s really not good enough.Take care love Jane xx

  • Gosh Ann, don’t apologise for feeling sorry for yourself-you’re having a very difficult start to your recovery. I would echo the advice on blood tests and potassium. The drink for this is vile but helps. I really hope things start to improve soon for you to be back to your usual cheery self. Take good care.

  • Thanks Jane.
They told me to take laxatives if I was constipated Imodium if I was loose and if I had pain go to A & E!

    Sounds caring doesn’t it?

They sent me home with laxatives as I could be constipated with the pain killers. I was told to take paracetamols! They’ve never made me constipated. I’m not sure if anything would have made Whoopi constipated she was over active.
    It’s like its her revenge.
    HA HA

She’s been cut off and binned so she’s made sure that her friends in that area are sending me a pile of whoopi

    I hope so too.

I am a strong woman but this has floored me.
Hopefully get some good food in there and I will feel stronger.

  • You are strong and so supportive to everyone, and I’m sure you’ll get through but oh my goodness you have not been treated well and not had the right support from the professionals at all. We are all here rooting for you though!

  • Karen When did you start taking the loperamide and how much did you take please?

One day I took the prescribed dose two before breakfast and lunch then nurse told me to be natural and I could of stopped my bowel working so then I got in a panic.
I did pass semi solid stools very tiny but definitely shaped but I had bloating and trapped wind

    Did the loperamide help you?

I am weak at the moment but once i improve I will be addressing the multiple issues I had.
The list is long and a painful read
As our new prime minister has said she’s going to fix the NHS maybe I should write to her as well!

You can tell here my mental strength is still there

now just need the body to go with it
