Everyone must be bored silly hearing me go on about this but I've had another few weeks of constant diahorrea followed by constipation! I take Immodium to stop and Senna to start! It would be funny if it wasn't ruining my life! My stoma nurse adviced taking 1 Senna every night, which I did on Saturday! Sunday only a very little output but Monday, OMG!! One gurggle and that was it, bag nearly bursting off my body and it just wouldn't stop! Sorry to be so graphic but it was horrendous! This time I haven't taken Immodium and it did stop after an hour or so! This morning I phoned the Stoma Clinic and I've been told to go back to bland foods! I haven't a clue how to make something interesting out of mashed potatoes, chicken and white rice, no veg ! Oh, forgotten bananas and smooth peanut butter! I hate sounding so sorry for myself, apologies everyone! It wouldn't be so bad if I knew WHY this is happening after 16 months but no-one seems to know!
Apologies again,
Moira x
Moira, I've just suddenly thought - is it you that uses a wheelchair? My deep apologies for a silly reply if it is you.
Best wishes, Roy.
I manage to change, usually, the same way, but it's become a bit more of a challenge lately, the way my output is! Nothing for 4 daysor so, then filling so suddenly! It's not really that that's the problem though, it's if I'm in a park say, and there aren't any toilets around, see what I'm getting at? I'd hate to get arrested for trying to empty it in public! Told you I keep getting weird thoughts but I've managed to not get into trouble so far in 72 years, it would be a terrible thing to happen now!
Best Wishes,
Moira
Yes Roy, I do use a wheelchair but I can walk too, so don't worry about it! I'm always very grateful for any advice I receive and you've helped me quite a bit over the last few months!
Best Wishes,
Moira
Oh Moira
You won’t get arrested
Dont worry about it. Check where the toilets are before maybe a short stay and suss them out. That will give you the confidence to know that they’re okay. If not find some that pass your checks.
I have safe places that I know are okay for me to cope. But I also know that I have a cardigan or black outfit that will get me home if I haven’t passed them as fit to change. If I’m really challenged like flying abroad I stick loads of extra stickers around my pouch
Honestly nothing gets through that, it does make me a little sore. I think it’s worth it to fly and see my family
People will not notice anyway if you look most of them are on their Phones!
That annoys me sooooo much. Why go out with someone then both sit and put it on their Facebook pages. They don’t talk. So they aren’t going to worry about you.
I have found that as I’ve got older I am invisible. I use it to my advantage!
You take care and if you want to go out go Brooke will do her thing She can’t stop you doing yours
Let us know how you get on
Ann
Thanks, Artsie Ann,
He had plenty of wipes with him. I had planned for this eventuality, and we've proved we can cope.
He has been on protein drinks ever since he had the original operation. I'm just hoping he can still have them as I have a stack here!! There is a chap opposite who went in there fed by a tube through the nose. He had come in to have it replaced, but I think they must have decided he can manage without it, so that cheered me up, slightly. I've told the consultant I want full instructions of what he can or can't eat. I'm not guessing this time!!!!
Is it possible for you to use drainable pouches.I have a iliostomy and just empty when needed.I have used all sorts of receptacles such as empty cardboard coffee cups etc when out and about and stuck with no loo.lid on firmly, double bagged and popped in a bin.
Always a quiet corner somewhere to empty discreetly and as Artsie says no one looks at you.as an retired person I reckon Im invisible anyway to most people.
Just a thought.
Kath
Hi NannyAnny,
I'm so sorry your husband is still in hospital but at least this time they do seem to have finally got some answers for you! It's not ideal to have a really restricted diet but I bet either of you will care about that, just so long as this nightmare finally ends! I know everyone on here is keeping fingers crossed for you both and hoping you're off walking again soon!
I'm starting to get into a a routine, at least it's sort of predictable if I watch what I eat! Saying that, who knows? These stomas are certainly keeping us on our toes!
Let us know how you both get on please, hopefully you'll have good news very soon,
Best Wishes,
Moira x

You took the words right out of my mouth. I wrote I was invisible last night but it didn’t post. I also said that everyone’s on their phones posting on Facebook that they’re out with their great mates. They don’t talk or look at each other.
Moira said earlier that she’s gone back to the empty style for time being. Well they might be good choice when out and about
Ann
Hi NannyAnny. After my first ileostomy was reversed I had random blockage episodes causing violent vomiting followed by diarrhoea. They cleared themselves eventually but sometimes I had to go into hospital. They talked about adhesions and not wanting to operate, so this went on for 13 years.
In March 2020, the 13th episode did not clear itself and after nearly 3 days vomiting faeces my kidneys were failing and I had to have emergency surgery. They discovered only then that in addition to adhesions I had a hernia in my bowel caused by a small perforation during my earlier surgery. This didn't show on any scans. They fixed it and the adhesions but I came out with a new ileostomy.
My point is they can operate on adhesions if they choose to so dont be fobbed off if your obstruction keeps recurring.
Best wishes.
