Long Haul Travel with Stomas?

Just wondered if anyone had done any long haul travel with stomas? I have a colostomy and urostomy and up to now have only done short haul flights to Majorca and Lanzarote.

This week, I’m attempting something much longer and hoping all will be ok! My colostomy can play up when I’m stressed and I am feeling a bit anxious about the long journey already!

  • Hi Sarah

    How exciting!
It’s come around really quickly. I’m sorry I haven’t done long haul yet but I will be interested in your replies.

    Happy Packing

  • Hi Ann

Seems like no-one has attempted this, or they’re not saying! I’m off on Wednesday morning and been sorting through my supplies today. Think I am organised but there’s always a niggle about either not having enough or a bag going missing! So much to think about on a long journey and needing to have enough for 2 weeks away. But it’s a tester for the future to see if I can cope ok.

I am a mixture of excited and anxious which is not a very good combination with a colostomy especially!

It'll be amazing and you can trailblaze for all of us.
You told me to pack what you think then double it. That’s what I did and it worked well. I took lots of extra stickers around the my pouch which I wore everyday. No leaks

Maybe eat very little before you go that might give you more confidence.

    Good luck xx

  • I think I’ve doubled it and a bit extra this time! Joy Definitely will watch what I eat tomorrow and be careful on the journey. I have packed way more of the brava strips to go round the outside than I would expect to use ( I normally only use them  for my urostomy, but will use for both this time I think) and I have supplies and clean clothes in both sets of hand luggage in case of accidents! Such a lot to prepare for….it’s exhausting! Plus I need a night drainage bag and stand for my ursotomy-it never ends! Joy

  • Good luck and remember no one will know you and remember your face as you’ll have a mask on.
    Enjoy
