I should be used to this by now, after 16 months, but I'm not! I seem to go from heavy diarrhea, I take a couple of Immodium, then hardly any output for a week! My stoma nurse doesn't seem worried so I suppose I shouldn't be, but I am! I've run out of Senna, I'll get some by Sunday, but does anyone have any ideas on how to kick start it! I've had fruit, fruit juice and bran flakes and now I just don't have any more ideas!

  • Hi Moira

I’m sorry to hear that things haven’t settled down. I have found my diet can be tricky to get right. One day I am fine with anything another I am not.
Isotonic drinks, pro biotic in the morning and avoid any kind of stodgy food. I find putting liquid helps things moving. Prune juice works for me too.

  • Thanks Ann, I'm feeling fed up with it at the minute!A few years ago, a couple of drinks would do the trick but non alcoholic drinks just don't work! I'll try the prune juice!

Hope you and Whoops are doing well,

  • Well if wine works let there be wine.
I think spinach loosens my output so I eat it in salads which helps.

Im doing well and Whoops has been great. We flew to Spain no blowouts or leaks thank goodness. I’ve got more confidence now. Just the swimming to tackle. That I haven’t done yet.

  • I'd love a glass of red, well I have some which is non alcoholic, but it's pop when all is said and done! I'm on a high dose of Gabepentin so I can't drink!

I'm absolutely desperate to go to Seattle to visit my son and his family but it's a 10 hour flight! It's almost 4 years since we've seen them, apart from Skype! It's a long way but I  might risk it, my husband isn't keen though, he's imagining all sorts of problems! Oh well, they'll just have to come over here!  Spain sounds wonderful!

I'll give spinach a go, I'm terrible with veg, a few carrots and peas are my usual limit!

  • Christmas 2019 was last time I was in the same room as my son and grandchildren. They live in Ireland and to drive door to door it’s ten hours. I’m going June though and flying in.
if you want to go to Seattle you should do it.  You deserve a good holiday. Or just go on a short flight to get your confidence. Somewhere warm like Spain.

  • I don't feel so sorry for myself now! Obviously I know I'm not the only one separated from family but it sometimes gets on top of me! So glad to hear you're finally going to be with your family, I'd love to visit Ireland! My son was talking about us meeting up in Florida, that's only a 6 hour flight, but nothing further has been mentioned! They've just bought a new speed boat so  I think that's the only thing on their mind at the moment! I might just bring it up when they call later!

Thanks Ann, June will be here very soon

  • Hey Moira

Could your meds be causing a problem with your output? I’ve looked up side effects and it’s on the list.
We went to Spain to stay in a villa to see my brother. It’s been nearly four years. It felt so good to give him a hug. We are returning October health permitting. Trouble with getting older we seem to spend more time taking pills and dozing. My brothers cancers come back my hubbys got Parkinson’s and me with an Ileostomy. What a trip we are.

Never mind that. The suns shining and it’s a lovely day.

  • Hi again Ann,

Yes, my meds have a lot to do with it I think! One lot make me constipated and other do the opposite!

It must have been lovely seeing your brother after 4 years and you've got a wonderful summer to look forward to! As you say, health permitting! Here, there's only me who is an old crock, my husband isn't too bad, apart from glacoma! I've just had shingles, in the groin and buttocks, just getting over that and my back has gone! If it didn't hurt so much I'd laugh!  I couldn't sit outside because of shingles and now I can't walk to door! I have my scan tomorrow, that'll be fun, trying to get on the MRI table!

    Happy days,

  • oh Moira
Good luck with the MRI. I get anxious with that prospect  I dislike those noisy tubes intensely. I took soundtrack to The Greatest Showman last time. I couldn’t hear a thing. Sang along with it. Was great though not sure radiographer enjoyed it.
