Hi everyone
I haven’t been on here for a while so hope you’re all doing well. I had my stoma reversal at the end of February this year. All was well after discharge from hospital, but a few weeks ago my bowels have started playing up again. Spoke to my GP and had a blood test which shows slightly overactive thyroid. He also referred me back to my surgeon under the two week rule. I’m freaking out as I got my appointment in just over a week from speaking to my GP. Colonoscopy is next Tuesday. Trying to stay positive, but as the last time I had one they discovered cancer, I’m finding it really hard. Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
Hi Jools63.
Your bowels can continue to improve for up to a couple of years after a reversal and I remember I seemed to take 2 steps forward and then 3 back sometimes. When I had my reversal the surgeon told me they had a quick look around while they were there and everything looked ok and they may have done the same with you? Did you also have a scan before your reversal?
I know things like this bring all the bad memories rushing back but your doctor has acted promptly and the colonoscopy will check everything out. I remember getting my first colonoscopy appointment within a few days of being referred and it was because they’d had a cancellation so please dont assume that it’s a bad sign.
Please let us know how you get on?
Take care

Hi Karen62
Hi Karen
I had my colonoscopy today and only a small poly was found. Phew! The surgeon said how great my results from my lower anterior resection were. Shame my original surgeon didn’t share that news. I’ve spoken to my GP, and she’s referring me to a thyroid specialist. I can’t believe how quickly everyone has worked to get me this far. Once again I am grateful and very humbled.
Thank you for your support. I really hope things are going well for you.
Hi Jools63. Oh that is good news and good to hear that the results from your LAR were so good too. Hopefully your appointment with the thyroid specialist will come through quickly.
Im doing ok thanks - preparing to move house in a couple of weeks time so surrounded by boxes eek!
