Hi husband stoma changing shape but recently bag goes white and we have had leaks. Does the bag goes white if not fixed properly
we have additional problem has hubby has two open wounds that are dressed daily and sometimes the dressing mean it’s over stoma bag and when we need to change makes it more difficult
any thoughts please x
Hi process
I can't answer about the white bag but the stoma does change size and shape there should be a measuring template in your kit or box of bags ( check with stoma nurse) as if the hole of the bag is too big it can cause leaks
My wound was too very very close to the wound I had to just be very very careful about when the dressings were changed and remind the nurse as they are not always aware of stoma problems, I also put my bag on at a slight angle
Hope this helps

Hi process. Is the bag going white round the hole that’s been cut? I used to experience this - it’s almost like the output is quite acidity and the hole discolours and goes a bit baggy and wobbly round the edges. Now the stoma is changing shape it’s important to measure it regularly and cut the hole size to fit. If you’re struggling to get the bag to fit well it could be worth asking your nurse for some ring seals to bridge the gap. These are mouldable rings that you can put round the stoma before putting the bag on. My stoma used to flop to one side so I found it difficult to get the bag up close to it. I used to put a quarter of one of these rings on first over the bit that always seemed exposed then the bag on after and it stopped the skin getting sore in that area.
Hope hubby is continuing to improve now you have him home

No I think it’s just how it is. After my reversal I had some very burning poos which brought me close to tears. It’s mainly trying to cut the bags to the correct size so all the skin around the stoma is covered. I was pretty rubbish at it so used to get the stoma nurse to measure and cut me a new bag when I visited her then I’d keep the pull off plastic bit and use that as a template. They gave me some stoma powder at one to point to help the sore skin but even though the nurse applied it and brushed it off I still had a bit of a leak

Hi process
I dont think there is much you can do about the the acidity just if the hole of the bag is cut to big , I was also given some rings to put round the stoma , mine are from Coleplast and called brava protective seals , these really help , but I only have to get a tiny bit on my skin for it to flare up it is on going for me as I have really sensitive skin, I also use all the wipes and things they can provide you, you can also call the stoma supply company you have and they will recommend things .
Good luck

Hi Process
Glad your husband is now home - it will be a big learning curve for you both - keep on smiling.
I have a permanent stoma and I find that if I have been busy getting hot and sticky and also after a shower my stoma bag goes white around the hole area. I assumed it was because of the heat.
Use the templates in the box of pouches to check his stoma size periodically as they do change shape and size especially early on.
Keep smiling
