Hello
It's now just over four weeks since surgery, and the stitches around the stoma are still there, and pulling on the skin a bit. How long do they usually take to go away?
Best wishes
The small stitches around your stoma should start to dissolve within 2 - 3 weeks all by themselves.
As you are over 4 weeks have a word with your stoma care nurse who can pull them through quite painlessly, it only takes seconds but wouldn't suggest doing it your self.

Thanks Ian
I had wondered about doing it myself. I am in touch with a stoma nurse, but with Covid I have not had any home visits, so I will ask on Monday how we do this? I live in quite a remote rural area, and my stoma nurse is based a 2 hour drive away - but there maybe someone close who could help with this. Like a district nurse? I'll follow it up after the weekend.
Best wishes & thanks.
