Hi Ann and welcome to stoma support, I know you've been a member of the Anal cancer forum group for a while now and my friends and have been looking after you, so I'm so sorry that you've you found your way here  hopefully you will find some answers.

As I understand it you have a pain in your bottom when you sit down this may be Tailbone pain, also called coccydynia or coccygodynia and if it is the same type of pain as I have no matter how you sit or how many times change position you can't shift the pain.

Apart from having your tailbone removed the only thing I can suggest is a donut cushion or a coccyx cushion to relieve the pressure.

As it sounds really bad it might be worthwhile when the current situation eases making an appointment with your GP to have it assessed, in my case I was referred back to the surgeons who spoke about removing my tailbone but decided that because of my other health problems I would be putting myself at risk if I had another operation.

You could try Pelvic floor exercises to see if that would help.

An injection of a local anesthetic into the tailbone can relieve pain but only for a few weeks.

I see that Sarah has suggested our volunteer anal surgeon to you and he might be able to give your more information if you send him a detailed message which you can do by clicking on his name in green and this will take you to his homepage.

I hope that my reply to your first venture into stoma support has been helpful and that we can help further if you have any stoma management problems in the future.

    Ian
