Hi guys

Coming from my hospital bed on Monday night I had a loop illestomy or a stoma of the small bowel. Everything is fine and working normal and have been signed off by the lovely stoma nurses now so just waiting for the doctors to sign me off and I'll be on my way home. It seems along time since I arrived last Friday. I see my stoma as part of my bowel cancer cure just gone abit sideways to get there but it will allow me to finish chemo got 13 doses left which will start up again in a few weeks once I'm strong enough. I honestly believe that having a stoma is not a setback or anything but just another way of being able to do our daily toileting habits. For those of you out there who are about to or have just had a stoma fitted please don't hesitate to contact me if you need to talk about how your feeling.

    Hi Mark

I'm pleased everything has gone well to date and hope you're safely back home.

Just remember all the advice you've been given prior to leaving hospital, it's so easy when you start to feel your own self again to forget what you are doing and without thinking you lift up a kettle of water or something else and you get a nasty twinge indicating you've pulled or strained something.

For the next few weeks or more listen to your body, if it tries to tell you something listen to it. We are all different and our recovery time can vary, it's a matter of not pushing nature.

At this time of year when coughs and sneezes are prevalent remember to always hold your arms into your stomach to avoid getting a hernia, due to your abdominal muscles being weakened.

Driving only when you are confident you can undertake an emergency stop.

Over the next few weeks or longer whilst everything is settling down if you have any questions or problems please don't hesitate to contact me and I will answer any question or help you find a solution to any problem you may have.

I hope everything continues to go well for you.
