Stoma reversal wait

Hi everyone

I’m sorry to be on here sounding so ungrateful, but I was told I’d have my reversal after 3 months, and am waiting for a date. My surgeon told me to get a blood test done at the end of January in preparation for surgery early this month. I phoned the hospital yesterday and was told they couldn’t give me any idea when I’ll get an appointment! I had a real meltdown at that. Did anyone else have the same problem? Why would the surgeon tell me one thing, and everyone else tell me almost the opposite?

  • Oh wow that’s great news . I bet you can’t wait. My surgeon described it as ‘a nice little op to fit in in between the biggies’. I was up and dressed the next day and looking for something to do but take the eating carefully for the first few days as the bowel doesn’t like being handled and can be a bit temperamental!

    Please keep us posted

  • Ah thanks Jersey Lily. Any tips will be gratefully received!

  • Will do AEC! Thanks.

  • Thanks latchbrook. Excited and nervous in equal measures!

  • Hey Karen

I’m going back to the low residue/fibre diet from next week. I’ve been quite poorly since 3am this morning! I’ve had to change surgeon as my original one told me he was too busy to do my reversal. I haven’t met the new doc yet, but he sounds lovely and phoned to offer to do so. He’s already arranged my pre-op, and hopes to be there! I’m excited, but nervous. I was so lucky with my big op that I don’t want to take anything for granted. How are you doing?

  • Hi . Yes your new doc sounds a lot nicer! I’m doing ok thanks. I had clear bloods last week (3 years and 3 months post op) and the nurse is going to book me a scan for March.

Off to Leeds on Saturday to meet up with 2 ladies that I got friends with on the other board during treatment - might have a cheeky lunchtime wine to celebrate!

    Take care
